How it began
While I have pet sat for friends for many years, I began Pet Sitting Full time in the Winter of 2016 after having lost my Yorkshire Terrier, Lexie, to a grueling ten month battle with Mast Cell Cancer. Lexie was my soulmate – you can read more about her here: You’re Really Gone
After losing her, I too was lost. I had sold my Real Estate Brokerage, Property Management Company and Construction Company just two years prior and the plan was, we’d go sailing. Plans don’t always work out like we’d like them to. Lost and now alone, I set out on a journey to find myself. Along the way, a generous friend offered me their home in the Florida Keys to stay for as long as I needed. Paradise, right? Not for me, I couldn’t find happiness with Lexie missing from my life. Then one day my neighbor there needed to go away for a few days and I volunteered to watch her two dogs. I was looking for something to do and my love of our four legged fur balls had not diminished. I was happy to have the opportunity to interact with them.
While caring for them, it occurred to me, for the first time a a while, I was happy. I couldn’t bring myself to get another dog as you don’t get to replace a soulmate, but I had a lot of love to give and I’d been training and caring for dogs of all types and sizes my whole life. I’ve rescued and rehabilitated a baby bunny as well as a Monarch Butterfly who’s wing was damaged. I began searching for others who needed pet sitting. I didn’t know it then, but that was the start of a new begining for me. With my intimate experiences in critical cancer care for Lexie, years of training experience and love of animals, I had found my next calling. That one month in the Florida Keys changed my life and gave me a new begining.
The Traveling Pet Sitter
I’m not the typical sitter. I travel the country Pet and House Sitting for people Coast to Coast to Coast. I look for long term assignments, typically 30 days or more, though I have taken shorter term assignments under the right circumstances.
I love to hike, mountain bike, kayak and the spend time at the beach. I also like history so homes that are in areas I can engage in those activities are a plus. In exchange, you get someone who can care for your pets with a kind and loving hand while also having the experience to care for your home and property.
Just a few of the places I have traveled to to pet and house sit: Gloucester, MA, San Francisco, CA, Phoenix, AZ, Boston, MA, New Smyrna Beach, FL, Newport OR, Mahopac, Pound Ridge, New York, and Olympia, WA
