North to Oregon – Day 5

Posted on October 31, 2013January 12, 2017 by Journey Waters

It’s officially One Week that I have been living in the bus and traveling now. Sure does not seem like it and I hope this feeling continues as there are 4 more weeks to go.

Since there was a slight change of plans, we had no rush for today so we hung around Port Orford, OR until about noon.  This allowed for a leisurely breakfast of Pancakes, A Big pot of coffee, Shower, Shave and some Internet Surfing. Lexie took this opportunity to take a nap in her favorite spot….on top of everything 😀

1031131342About an hour into the trip North we hit the Oregon Sand Dunes. Yep, Sand Dunes in Oregon, who would have thought? Surly not me, but they were cool. They would have been even better if the Oregon rain had not found us, but they did making the trip wet and foggy and without many photo ops.

I had wanted to try out the Sand Rails, but when I got there, they only took groups of two or more and Lexie didn’t count. They also didn’t let your drive your own. I knew I should have rented the ATV’s I passed earlier, but I always wanted to drive a Sand Rail and I’ve driven ATV’s so i passed thinking I could find what I wanted further north, but that wasn’t the case.

1031131657There wasn’t much to see as the coast was fogged in and we weren’t going to hike in wet sand so we just kept driving.  Even Lexie got bored. I pulled over a few times to see if there was anything to get a picture of, but no go. Just wet rain and fog. We arrived in Florence earlier than needed so I drove around there. Headed North to the Sea Otter Cave, but Lexie could not go so I didn’t either. We did a little more exploring in Florence and then turned East for Eugene.

More rain and more fog, but the scenery reminded me much of back East now as the huge mountains of California and the huge trees were behind us and these mountains were more to what I am use to.

We pulled into Eugene around 5:30 and hooked up with a fellow bus friend and master mechanic at the No Name Garage in Eugene, OR. My plan was to actually get here tomorrow, but since I was early and he was in, we stopped in to say hi. He offered me a camp site for the night and I happily agreed. Free is always good!  While I have plenty of spare parts and all my tools, I figured having an expert look Sandy over could not be a bad thing so tomorrow he’ll be taking a quick look at the bus to be sure everything is up to spec before I continue our trip. If he can, he’ll tend to some minor things or give me some tips on what to do and when. Then by noon, we should be back on the road and ready for more adventure here in Eugene.

One quick observation on Eugene…there are Buses everywhere here. I’ve already passed 4 and have only been in town for 3 hours.

No photos for today other than what’s posted here due to rain.

Oh, almost forgot…Happy Halloween Everyone.
