Someone slept in this AM and it wasn’t Lexie. I was really enjoying the warmer temps. Yes, 35 degrees feels a lot better than 16 degrees or even the 27 degree temps we’ve had the past week. I didn’t even need the Propane Heater last night. Well, with Lexie and I fed and our host Jill and Joel off to work, I took to checking the timing on Sandy.
Well, I tried anyway. I set everything up which involves clearing out the back of the bus and getting my tools out and then I found out my new timing light was not working. Off to town we went to find another Auto Parts store and once located, we exchanged the timing light and set to checking the timing. First I reset my previous adjustments back to where they were and then with the PO’s (Prior Owners) help via phone, I dialed her in to 28 degrees BTDC at 3000 rpm. Then we set off to the Fargo Visitor Center.

Whacha think of my hat?” type=”image” alt=”1120131255.jpg” pe2_img_align=”right” ] OK folks. I had a lot of good ribbing when I said I was going to Fargo, ND and I can;t tell you how many people posted the famous Wood Chipper video on my Facebook wall (which I deleted as I never even watched the move – some things you just don;t need to see) So at the Visitors Center which has the original wood chipper in the movie prominently displayed, I began to ask questions as Fargo is a big city and I was quite surprised THIS is the fame they hold onto. So time for some facts people.
Fargo, the movie did not take place in Fargo, ND but Minnesota. They just liked the name Fargo.
The famous Wood Chipper scene; while the movie says its based on a true story, its not a single true story, but many stories made into a single fictional story for the movie. The actually Wood Chipper murder too place in Newtown, CT. Yes, THAT Newtown! The accents in the movie, they are not from Fargo either, but Minnesota and Buffalo, NY and Chicago and Detroit. So let’s end the picking on Fargonians 😉
Ok, something I forgot to post about yesterday regarding South Dakota. We’re traveling north in the bus when I try to find a radio station that is not either NPR or Christian. Nothing wrong with either, though I won’t comment on the Christian Right Wing stations that were very popular too, but I wanted music and I’ve grown tired of my 6 CD’s at this point. That’s when a song catches my ear I never heard it before, but I liked it so I listened. Then another song I did know and another and another. All 60’s and early 70’s music. PERFECT. Then the Station Identification comes on and I asked myself. Self, did they just say what though they said? I continue listening and yes they did. Hippie Radio 104.3 (click that link to listen in) Hippie Radio just came into being on Jan 1, 2013! So here I am, having been to the very spot where the Hippie Movement was created. Been to the largest Hippie Town in the USA – Eugene Oregon and now here I am in the middle of Prairie Land and I find a Hippie Radio Station. Great station, wrong location. 😀
Back to today; so after visiting the Fargo – Moorhead Visitors Center and getting my picture with the Wood Chipper we hit the highway. I’m still having a temperature issue with the engine so we take it easy and the next fuel stop I readjust the fuel mixture and recheck the settings. From there out, its a long mundane drive to Stillwater, MN which was sad because if I had leaf on time, I could have traveled a very scenic route down Rt 10 that would have also helped me avoid rush hour traffic in Minneapolis and St.Paul, but I hit that traffic right on schedule!
We pulled into my host (a biker friend of mine and Lexie’s) David S’s house and as he promised, there was a camper in the driveway. Too dark for a pictures, but she’s just a tad bigger than Sandy. Wait till you see it! I also found out that this rig is headed down to the Keys which is where Lexie and I are headed soon as well so we may see it again.
After chit chatting with David and company (another biker friend) of ours, we set out to dinner down town and then called it a night. We’re expecting perhaps an inch of snow tomorrow. Might wake up to some or might be out of here before it hits, but by tomorrow we should be well East of the Snow Line that is headed this way. That is, until we hit Rochester, NY and Maine.
