This would insure me that we’d make Thanksgiving Dinner which was my goal. So after a nice breakfast of Pancakes and a bit of snow shoveling, we turned south on Rt 22 and headed for my families home in Yorktown Heights, NY.
This is a drive I am very familiar with. Over the last 8 months I have commuted up and down this path almost every month and have traveled it at least a dozen times a year since 1978 when my family bought a small house on Lake St. Catherine in Vermont. It still feels weird to be back here traveling on road I know well in the bus. While we’re still not home, we are on home turf now. The thing about today was that outside of a quick post this morning, I did not tell my family I was coming home. I wanted it to be a surprise and knew they would not see the blog post till tonight and by then I’d be there.

Lexie was so happy to see her after all this time.” type=”image” alt=”1126131503.jpg” ]After a couple of hours driving, we were pulling into town. First stop was to surprise Lexie’s Mommy. I swung by her office and parked out front. Then asked the receptionist to let her know someone was here for her, but would not say who. I watched as she walked into the office and then turned to look out the window and there looking back at her was her little girl. She came running out and Lexie was so excited to see her. We all went inside the office and Lexie licked Mommy hello and was so excited, jumping all over her.

Perhaps tomorrow I will give Sandy a much needed bath.” type=”image” alt=”1126131513.jpg” pe2_img_align=”right” ] We had to let Mommy get back to work so off we went to my parents house. I pulled into the driveway and my sister was at the door along with my Mom and Dad’s two Yorkies, Logan and Daisy. I had picked up Logan and Daisy out of Ohio about a year ago and was fostering them until I found someone who would adopt them both. Before I found anyone, my Mom decided she wanted them and I was glad as I love those two, but traveling with three dogs is kind of crazy. Now I get the best of both worlds and my Mom and Dad have two nutty dogs to keep them busy. Everyone was excited to see us and Logan and Daisy attacked Lexie with affection as soon as she came through the door. My Dad was up stairs and surprised to hear my voice, but my Mom wasn’t home yet. A little while later as I was unpacking stuff out of the bus, I hear the horn beeping down the road and here she comes. She gets out of her car and gives Lexie and i a great big kiss and we all headed inside. I was so glad I got to surprise them.
So we’ll be staying put for a few days here. Time to be with family and friends. Time to celebrate Thanksgiving. I’ll make a few posts about the days ahead, but then on Monday I’ll be back on the road with Lexie. Since we have some more time now, I’m going to travel up the New England Seaboard to Maine and then turn West for home in Vermont.
So stay tuned we are not done yet with this trip.
