Tonight we sit on the banks of Puget Sound which is kind of ironic as I should have been sailing the Atlantic right now, but and tomorrow we will be crossing the Salish Sea…in a Bus!
We departed Edmonds, WA around 11am headed for the Edmonds / Kingston ferry.
Not sure why my navigation rerouted me south to avoid the ferry, but after figuring out what it was doing, I turned around and we went back to the ferry. That wound up costing us a day as we missed the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria B.C. by about 20 minutes. No problem though, that meant Lexie and I could head up to Hurricane Ridge Rd in Olympic National Park.
The drive turned out to be shorter than expected, but the views spectacular. See, the road was closed…due to snow! YES, our first spotting of snow and we are still on the West Coast! Mt. Olympus was completely covered in snow and just picture perfect. I really wanted to get up to the snow though, but I am sure I will have plenty of opportunity ahead for that as we eventually make our way east.
Back into town we went for some sightseeing and a quick vacuum of Sandy’s interior now that the mouse nest in the heat duct is gone (thanks to Stuart). We headed out of town to the KOA only to discover that it was closed. I tried another and that too was closed, but the third one was a charm. I have a feeling that the campgrounds are only going to get harder to find as we head East too. I may have to rely on my negotiating skills and power of persuasion to convince businesses to offer us electric as we work our way back east. I am lucky that I do have a fairly good network of friends from Wala Wala, WA to Vermont that will be offering us camping spots at their homes.
Tomorrow should be fairly exciting as I have not crossed into Canada since 1999 and this time I have Lexie with me and its Post 9/11. Hopefully everything goes well and we are granted entry for a day or two.
On a bright side, I learned how to reheat pizza on the cooktop. With the frig working full time now, we will be able to enjoy leftovers more often.
I’ll also be out of telephone communication until we return to the US as I don’t have an International plan. Well, we need to be at the Ferry Dock by 7:30am so it’s an early night for us. See you all in Canada eh! 😀
